Before you start
- Only active members of the existing card can use the official split flow.
- The official manual says at least one adult member must remain on the original card after the split.
- Only verified names and Aadhaar numbers can be split from the original card.
- Avoid submitting another online/offline ration-card application for the same request while the split is active.
Keep these documents / details ready
- Family group photo (official manual shows JPG/JPEG upload).
- Applicant signature image.
- Self-attested Aadhaar copies/details for applicant and family members.
- Self-attested first page of bank passbook showing account-holder/bank details.
- Self-attested residence proof / residential certificate.
- Income certificate; the portal/manual provides a separate upload.
- Caste certificate if applicable; disability certificate if applicable.
How to do it — step by step
- Open RCMS and sign in with the current account/MeriPehchaan flow.
- Choose the split-ration-card application and search/select the existing card.
- Select the members to move. Check that at least one adult remains on the original card.
- Review member details; the manual notes that verified name/Aadhaar data has limited editability.
- Enter required household details including income/caste-certificate details shown by the split flow.
- Upload self-attested documents, photo and signature; Final Submit to generate the Application ID.
- Download/save the acknowledgement and track the request.

This flow is for an existing Bihar ration-card household being divided. The official split manual applies conditions to active/verified members and requires an adult to remain on the original card.

Pending, rejected, returned or incorrect?
- Do not create a duplicate application through another mode.
- If a member cannot be selected, verify whether the name/Aadhaar is already verified and active on the source card.
- If returned/rejected, use the stated reason and contact the Food & Consumer Protection authority if the portal cannot resolve it.
Common questions
Can every member be split?
The official split manual says only active members can apply and only verified names/Aadhaar numbers can be split.
Can all adults leave the old card?
No. The official split manual says at least one adult member must remain on the original card after the split.
Should I file a second ration-card application too?
The official split guidance warns against another application for the same ration card through another online/offline mode because it may lead to rejection.
