Registration is closed. The correction window is the only door still open — briefly
GATE 2027, organised by IIT Madras, has finished taking applications. Registration finally closed on 16 October 2026, after a special late-fee window that ran from 15 October (10:30 AM) to 16 October (10:29 AM) — the official notifications page records the portal's closure on 16 October. No new application can now be created for GATE 2027.
What remains open is the rectification (correction) window, which opened on 14 October 2026, for candidates who already submitted and paid. Through the GOAPS portal — and only through GOAPS — you can correct specified particulars of your submitted application. This article sets out what can be edited, what each class of change costs, what cannot be changed at all, and the one point on which you must verify for yourself: the closing date.
The deadline: two dates are in circulation — act on the earlier one
Say this plainly, because other pages will not. When the correction window opened, reproductions of the official Important Dates listing gave its closing date as 21 October 2026. Trackers updated on 19 and 20 October report that the official listing has since been extended to 31 October 2026.
StudyDesk opened the official GATE 2027 website and its notifications page for this article; the notifications confirm the surrounding schedule (registration closed 16 October, city allotment 4 January 2027, examinations in February, result 19 March 2027), but the correction window's own closing row did not render in the fetch. On that evidence, this article will not print 31 October as settled fact, and it will not print 21 October as settled fact either. What it will tell you is how to behave:
- Log in to GOAPS today and read the close shown against your own application. That is the authoritative date for you.
- Until GOAPS shows you 31 October, work to 21 October. An extension you have not personally seen confirmed costs nothing to beat and everything to miss.
- Do not rely on any summary page — including this one — for the deadline. Dates on the GATE site are expressly liable to change, as IIT Madras states on its own timeline.
What you can edit in the correction window
For an already-submitted, paid application, the window permits changes to:
- Name
- Date of birth
- Gender
- Category
- PwD status and dyslexia status
- Examination paper — including changing your paper selection
- Examination cities
- Parent/guardian details and address details
- College and qualifying-degree details
Work through your application against your documents field by field, not just the field you opened the window for. The correction window exists because errors in exactly these particulars — a name that does not match the degree certificate, a category claim that does not match the certificate, a date of birth transposed — become document-verification failures later, when there is no window left to fix them.
What each change costs
The fee structure published on the GATE 2027 Application Fees page is per paper and falls into three bands:
- Free: changes to parent/guardian details, address, college and qualifying-degree details carry no correction fee.
- ₹500 per paper: the standard charge for most chargeable changes.
- ₹1,500 per paper: changes that move you into a higher fee group — for example, a category or gender change that alters the application-fee slab your form falls under — are charged at the higher rate.
Two consequences to budget for: a candidate registered for two papers pays the per-paper charge for each paper the change applies to, and a fee-group change is priced at the ₹1,500 band rather than the standard ₹500. Pay only through GOAPS; no agent, form-filling shop or third-party site can make or charge for these corrections.
What cannot be changed — at all
- Registered email address: locked. It cannot be changed in the correction window.
- Registered mobile number: locked, on the same terms.
If you have lost access to the registered email or number, the correction window will not rescue you — that is a helpdesk problem (the GATE-JAM office at IIT Madras), and it should be raised immediately rather than discovered at admit-card time.
Photograph and signature: only if scrutiny flags them
Do not go looking for a photo or signature edit button. Photograph and signature changes are entertained only where scrutiny has flagged your upload as defective. If your application is flagged, you will be notified — defect communications give candidates roughly three days to respond — and the correction route opens for that specific defect. The practical rules: check your application status and your registered email regularly through this period, treat a defect notice as a three-day deadline rather than a general invitation, and re-upload exactly to the specification the notice states.
The DigiLocker rule you must not break
GATE 2027 applications were submitted through DigiLocker, and IIT Madras's official notification of 19 September 2026 — visible on the official notifications page — states the rule in terms: do not delete your verified or unverified DigiLocker account after application submission, because all future GATE 2027 communication will be made only with respect to the DigiLocker account used to apply. Candidates who tidy up accounts, switch accounts or delete the one they applied with risk cutting the only channel through which the GATE office will communicate with them — including for the correction and admit-card stages. Leave the account exactly as it is until the examination cycle ends.
After corrections: the road to February
Once the window closes, the notified GATE 2027 schedule runs:
- 4 January 2027: Examination city allotment notification.
- 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21 February 2027: GATE 2027 examinations.
- 19 March 2027: Announcement of results.
Admit card download dates are announced separately on the official site; the city allotment on 4 January is the next confirmed milestone after this window. Candidates who change examination cities in the correction window should re-check their preferences against that January date — a city change now is a decision about where you will be in the first week of January's allotment, not an abstract preference.
A closing checklist for today
- Log in to GOAPSand read the correction deadline shown for your application.
- Audit every editable fieldagainst your certificates — name, date of birth, category, paper, cities — not only the one you came to fix.
- Make all edits in one careful pass, pay the fee GOAPS computes (free, ₹500 or ₹1,500 per paper as applicable), and submit.
- Check for defect flagson photo/signature and answer any defect notice within its roughly three-day window.
- Leave your DigiLocker account untouched— it is now your official communication channel with GATE 2027.
The correction window is a short, unglamorous facility, and it is the last point in the GATE 2027 cycle where an error in your application is cheap to fix. Use it this week, on the earlier deadline, verified in your own login.

Frequently asked questions
When did the GATE 2027 correction window open, and when does it close?
It opened on 14 October 2026 for already-submitted, paid applications, via GOAPS only. The close is reported both as 21 October 2026 (the listing at the window's opening) and as extended to 31 October 2026 (trackers updated 19–20 October). Confirm the exact close in your GOAPS login and work to the earlier date until you see the extension there.
What details can I change?
Name, date of birth, gender, category, PwD/dyslexia status, examination paper, examination cities, and parent/address/college/degree details — for a submitted, paid application, through GOAPS.
What are the correction fees?
Parent/address/college/degree edits are free. Most other chargeable changes cost ₹500 per paper, and changes that move you to a higher fee group cost ₹1,500 per paper, as per the official Application Fees page.
Can I change my registered email or mobile number?
No. Neither the registered email address nor the registered mobile number can be changed in the correction window.
Can I change my photograph or signature?
Only if scrutiny has flagged the upload as defective. Defect notices give roughly three days to respond; there is no general photo/signature edit facility.
Why must I keep my DigiLocker account?
Because, per IIT Madras's official notification of 19 September 2026, all future GATE 2027 communication is made only through the DigiLocker account used to apply. Do not delete it.
