The final MCC round for NEET MDS 2026 opens on 22 October

Dental postgraduate aspirants get one last centralised chance this cycle: the stray vacancy round of NEET MDS 2026 counselling opens for registration and choice filling on 22 October 2026 at the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC). It is a short, fast round — registration and choice filling run 22–26 October, choice locking continues to 27 October, the result is scheduled for 29 October, and reporting runs from 30 October to 5 November 2026. Round 3 has just concluded — its reporting window closed on 19 October — so the stray round's vacant pool is now settled, and this article sets out what remains, who can take part, and what it costs.

MCC counsels the central MDS pools: 50% All India Quota (AIQ) MDS seats and 100% of deemed university and central university MDS seats. The remaining seats — the state quota — are counselled by state authorities on a parallel schedule, and the state track's own stray round and joining deadline are covered below. Keep the two tracks separate: this article's dates are MCC's, and your state authority's notice governs its pool.

Where the cycle stands: Round 3, completed

Round 3 of NEET MDS 2026 MCC counselling ran on the revised schedule as follows: registration from 3 to 7 October 2026, choice filling from 3 to 8 October 2026, the result on 10–11 October 2026, and reporting from 12 to 19 October 2026. With Round 3 reporting now closed, the seats that were allotted and joined are out of circulation, seats allotted but not joined return under the scheme's rules, and never-allotted seats carry forward — together they form the stray round's vacant pool. If you were allotted in Round 3 and joined, your counselling is complete. If you were allotted and did not join, check the scheme's eligibility and forfeiture provisions before assuming you can enter the stray round; the stray round's door is widest for candidates who hold nothing.

Three features of this timetable deserve emphasis. First, registration and choice filling open together — there is no gap in which to register early and deliberate later; your preference list must be substantially ready when the window opens on 22 October. Second, choice locking runs a day beyond choice filling, to 27 October — use the extra day to review, not to begin. Third, the result-to-reporting gap is one day: the result lands on 29 October and reporting opens on 30 October. Candidates at a distance from their likely colleges should plan travel before the result, not after it.

Who can register — including candidates who missed every earlier round

The stray round admits fresh candidates: if you are NEET MDS 2026 qualified and did not register in Rounds 1–3, you may register now for the stray round. That makes this round genuinely open in a way the UG stray round is not — a qualified MDS aspirant who sat out the cycle so far can still enter. Candidates who registered earlier and hold no seat continue under the scheme's provisions. As always in final rounds, treat an allotment as final in your planning: stray rounds exist to fill seats permanently for the academic year, and the scheme's resignation and upgradation facilities are at their narrowest here. Only fill choices for colleges and specialities you will actually join at the fee that seat carries.

Fees and the refundable security deposit

MCC's fee structure for MDS counselling follows the same two-part design as its other PG counselling:

  • AIQ registration fee: ₹1,000 for General/EWS candidates and ₹500 for SC/ST/OBC candidates — non-refundable.
  • AIQ security deposit (refundable): ₹25,000 for General/EWS candidates and ₹10,000 for SC/ST/OBC candidates.
  • Deemed university registration fee: ₹5,000, with a refundable security deposit of ₹2,00,000.

The warning that applies every round applies with extra force in the last one: the deemed deposit of ₹2,00,000 is real money locked for the process, refundable under the scheme's rules, and forfeiture provisions bite hardest around allotted-but-not-joined seats in final rounds. Register for the deemed pool only if a deemed MDS seat, at deemed fees, is an outcome you genuinely accept.

The state-quota track, in parallel

State authorities counsel the state-quota MDS seats on their own schedules, aligned to the same national framework: the state stray round runs 24–30 October 2026, with the last date of joining also 5 November 2026. If you are pursuing a state-quota seat, your authority's notice — its registration window, its deposit, its document list — is the document that governs you, and its dates can differ in detail from MCC's. Candidates active in both tracks should track both results independently; an allotment in one track interacts with the other under the applicable rules, so read the joining and resignation provisions before acting on either.

Documents to keep ready for reporting (30 October – 5 November)

Reporting moves fast in this round, so assemble the original-document set now:

  • NEET MDS 2026 scorecard and admit card
  • BDS degree certificate and BDS marksheets
  • Internship completion certificate
  • Dental council registration (State Dental Council / Dental Council of India registration certificate)
  • Identity proof, and category/PwBD certificates if you claimed the corresponding reservation

Colleges verify originals at reporting; a missing original is the most common avoidable cause of a lost final-round seat, because the reporting window contains no slack for retrieving documents from another city. If any document is held by another institution from an earlier admission process, start the retrieval today.

A closing checklist for the 22 October opening

  • Confirm your NEET MDS 2026 qualification and keep your scorecard and admit card ready.
  • Decide your pools — AIQ, deemed, or both — with the deposit amounts in front of you.
  • Draft your preference list before 22 October; the window opens with registration and choice filling together.
  • Register and pay between 22 and 26 October; fill and review choices in the same window.
  • Lock by 27 October and keep a printout of the locked list.
  • Check the result on 29 October and report between 30 October and 5 November with the full original-document set.
