The last MCC round of NEET UG 2026 is in its reporting window
The stray vacancy round is the final round of MCC's NEET UG 2026 counselling, and it has reached its decisive stage: the provisional result for the stray vacancy round has been published on the MCC UG portal, and candidates who have been allotted a seat must report at the allotted college by 26 October 2026. Registration for this round ran from 12 to 14 October 2026, choice filling and locking were extended till 12:30 PM on 17 October 2026, and the provisional result followed on 17 October. Reporting opened on 19 October and is under way now.
This round covers the seats MCC counsels centrally: 15% All India Quota seats, 100% of deemed university and central university seats, and seats in AIIMS, JIPMER and ESIC institutions. Per the MCC clear-vacancy matrix published for this round, 4,068 seats were on offer — 3,426 MBBS, 499 BDS and 143 B.Sc Nursing seats. That is a substantial pool for a final round, but it is open only to a narrowly defined group of candidates, and its rules are the strictest of the entire counselling cycle. Both points matter more than the headline number.
Who was eligible — and who was shut out
The stray vacancy round is not a fresh start for everyone. Its eligibility design is deliberately restrictive:
- Only candidates holding no seat anywhere could participate. If you held an allotted or joined seat — in MCC counselling or in a state quota — you were not eligible for this round.
- Round 3 allottees who did not join are debarred. A candidate who was allotted a seat in Round 3 and failed to join it is barred from the stray round and forfeits the security deposit. This is the cycle's enforcement mechanism against seat blocking, and it has already been applied.
- Stray allotments are final. There is no upgradation and no resignation after a stray vacancy allotment. The seat you are allotted in this round is the seat you take, or the seat you lose — there is no "accept now, improve later" and no exit with a refund of consequences.
Read that third point again if you have been allotted a seat and are hesitating. In earlier rounds, a candidate could weigh options; in the stray round, the scheme removes the option. Not reporting by 26 October does not preserve your position for anything else — this is the last MCC round of the cycle.
Reporting: what to do by 26 October 2026
- Check the final result and download your allotment letterfrom the MCC UG portal. The provisional result was published first; act on the final result and the documents the portal issues against it.
- Report in person at the allotted college within the reporting window (19–26 October 2026)with your original documents. Photocopies alone do not complete admission formalities; colleges verify originals at reporting.
- Carry the standard document setNEET UG 2026 admit card and scorecard, Class 10 and Class 12 certificates and marksheets, identity proof, category/caste certificate if you claimed a reserved category, PwBD certificate if applicable, and passport-size photographs — and check the allotted college's own reporting notice for anything additional it requires.
- Be ready to pay the college's fees at reportingas the college directs, and collect the fee receipt and admission confirmation before you leave.
- Do not miss the deadline because of travel.26 October 2026 is the last date; colleges close stray admissions on the schedule MCC has set, and an unreported allotment lapses.
How the stray round closes the 2026 cycle
With reporting ending on 26 October 2026, MCC's UG counselling for MBBS, BDS and B.Sc Nursing seats under its pools concludes for the 2026 cycle. Seats that remain vacant after this round are not recycled into another MCC round. Candidates who did not secure a seat in any MCC round should watch their state authority's remaining schedule — several states run their own stray or mop-up processes for state-quota seats on separate dates; Karnataka's KEA stray round, for instance, runs to a 26 October joining deadline of its own. Keep the two tracks distinct: an MCC stray allotment is final and binding, while state processes follow state rules, and the eligibility conditions of one do not transfer to the other.
