The Mains result is a roll-number PDF — 4,367 candidates move to Phase III
The State Bank of India has declared the result of the Probationary Officers Main Examination held on 12 September 2026, under Advertisement No. CRPD/PO/2026-27/09. The result PDF, published on 15 October 2026 in the Careers section of sbi.bank.in, lists the roll numbers of 4,367 candidates who have qualified for Phase III. There is no login and no scorecard at this step: open the PDF, search your roll number, and that search is the whole result.
The recruitment carries 1,500 vacancies — 1,446 regular and 54 backlog. Set the two numbers side by side and the shape of Phase III becomes clear: roughly three qualified candidates for every post, which means the Group Exercise and Interview are not a lap of honour for Mains qualifiers. They are the stage at which two out of three remaining candidates will be eliminated. Everything in this article follows from that arithmetic.
What Phase III actually consists of
Phase III has three components, and they do not all do the same job:
- Psychometric Test — 31 October 2026 (tentative). This is a personality and aptitude profiling exercise, and it is qualifying in nature: it does not carry selection marks, but you must take it, and its profile is placed before the interview panel. Answer it as yourself, consistently. A psychometric profile has no "correct" answers to rehearse; attempts to game it produce inconsistent profiles, which is the one outcome worse than an ordinary one.
- Group Exercise. Candidates are assessed in a group setting on how they reason, listen, build on others and reach structure under time pressure.
- Interview. The personal interview before the panel, for which the psychometric profile is one input.
The selection weight sits in the Group Exercise and the Interview. The psychometric test gates and informs; the exercise and the interview decide. Prepare accordingly — most of your remaining effort belongs to the two components that are actually scored.
The calendar you are now working to
- 12 September 2026 — Main Examination held (done).
- 15 October 2026 — Mains result published; 4,367 roll numbers listed (done).
- 31 October 2026 (tentative) — Psychometric Test.
- From 18 November 2026 — Group Exercise and Interview begin.
Two cautions belong with that calendar. First, "tentative" is SBI's own word for the psychometric date in the result notice; keep it attached. A change, if any, will come through SBI Careers and your call letter. Second, "from 18 November" is a window opening, not your date: interviews run across days, and your specific date and venue arrive with the Phase-III call letter. Do not book travel against the window; book it against your call letter.
How to check the result, and what to do in the next 48 hours
- Go to sbi.bank.in and open the Careers section; find the result under Advertisement CRPD/PO/2026-27/09.
- Download the Phase-II result PDF and search your roll number in it. Save a copy — result PDFs are replaced as the cycle moves on.
- If your roll number is listed, note that no further result-day action is required of you; the next document in your life is the Phase-III call letter, which SBI will issue for the psychometric test and the interview process.
- Begin Phase III preparation now, not when the call letter arrives. Eleven days separate today from the tentative psychometric date, and the interview window opens less than a month from the result.
Preparing for the stage that actually decides
The Group Exercise rewards a specific, learnable behaviour set: structuring a problem aloud, quantifying where possible, inviting quieter members in, summarising the group's position and closing with a conclusion in the time given. It punishes volume without structure. Practise in a real group if you can; solo preparation cannot simulate the dynamic.
The interview for a Probationary Officer is, at its core, a test of whether the panel can picture you running a branch: your reasons for banking, your understanding of what a PO's first years actually involve, current banking and economic developments, and honest command of whatever you have written in your biodata. Every claim in your form is a question waiting to be asked, so re-read your own application before anyone else does. Pair that with the psychometric test's one rule — consistency — and you have the complete honest preparation strategy for Phase III: no shortcuts exist at this stage, and none are needed, because the panel is selecting for judgement rather than recall.
And a word for the candidates whose roll numbers are not in the PDF: the Mains cutoff in a 1,500-post cycle is a fine margin, and a Mains appearance itself is verified evidence of level. The result PDF is a list of roll numbers, not a verdict on capability — the banking calendar offers another cycle, and the preparation you have banked transfers.
