What the scheme pays
Mukhyamantri Kanya Utthan Yojana is the Bihar government's milestone-based scheme for girl children, launched on 25 April 2018 and run by the Education Department. It pays at several life stages from birth to graduation, but for students the two amounts that matter are the Class 12 incentive and the graduation incentive. Both are corroborated by four independent tracker sources and by the scheme's own portal structure.
| Milestone | Amount | Who gets it |
|---|---|---|
| Passing Class 12 (Intermediate, BSEB) | Rs 25,000 (one-time) | Unmarried Bihar girls who pass the Intermediate examination, in any division |
| Completing graduation (Snatak) | Rs 50,000 (one-time) | Bihar girls who complete a bachelor's degree from a recognised university in Bihar, in any division; married or unmarried |
The Class 12 component is also called Mukhyamantri Balika Protsahan Yojana (Madhyamik +2); the graduation component is also called Mukhyamantri Kanya (Snatak) Protsahan Yojana. Both run on the same Medhasoft portal.
The scheme also pays smaller amounts at earlier stages — at birth, on school entry, and an annual uniform subsidy that was revised upward (for example, the Class 9-12 uniform rate rose from Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500 a year). Trackers disagree on the exact early-stage figures, so this guide does not state them as facts. The total value of the scheme from birth to graduation is reported by one tracker as up to Rs 94,100 — treat that as a tracker figure, not an official total.
Who can apply
Eligibility is simple and deliberately wide. The scheme is universal — it applies to all Bihar girls without discrimination by caste, religion or income — and covers up to two girl children per family.
- Permanent resident of Bihar.
- For the Rs 25,000 Class 12 incentive: passed the Intermediate examination conducted by the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB), and unmarried at the time the result was declared.
- For the Rs 50,000 graduation incentive: completed a recognised bachelor's degree (B.A., B.Sc., B.Com. or equivalent professional degree) from a recognised university located in Bihar. Married and unmarried graduates are both eligible.
- A bank account in the girl's own name — not a parent's or guardian's — opened at a bank branch in Bihar, linked to Aadhaar and mapped on NPCI. Without Aadhaar seeding, the DBT payment fails.
- The name and date of birth on Aadhaar must match the board marksheet or degree certificate exactly.

| Aadhaar card | Name and date of birth must match the educational certificates exactly |

| Recent passport-size photograph | As required by the portal upload screen |
This list is tracker-reported from the scheme's application process. The portal's own upload screen is authoritative — if it asks for an extra document, upload that too.
How to apply — step by step
Applications are online only, on the official Medhasoft portal. There is no application fee. Registration for Year 2026 was open on the portal when checked on 25 October 2026.
- Go to the official portal onlyOpen medhasoft.bihar.gov.in. Do not use look-alike sites — kanyautthanyojana.org and kanyautthanyojana.in are reported as fake. The genuine portal is a .bihar.gov.in address.
- Pick the right componentOn the homepage, choose 'Mukhyamantri Balika Protsahan Yojana (Madhyamik +2) — Year 2026' for the Class 12 incentive, or 'Mukhyamantri Kanya (Snatak) Protsahan Yojana' for the graduation incentive. Each has its own registration link (Link 1, 2 or 3).
- Register with Aadhaar and mobile OTPEnter your details exactly as they appear on your marksheet and Aadhaar, and verify with the OTP sent to your mobile.
- Fill the form and upload documentsEnter your bank account details (own account, Bihar branch, Aadhaar-seeded) and upload the documents listed above.
- Finalise — do not skip this stepAfter submitting, press Finalize. An application that is only saved and never finalised is not processed at all, and the portal will show 'Pending for Finalization'.
- Note your registration numberSave the registration number — you need it to check application and payment status on the portal (Reports section, then Check Scholarship Status).
Checking your application and payment status
Status is checked on the same portal: medhasoft.bihar.gov.in, then Reports, then Check Scholarship Status, using your registration number. The meanings below are tracker-reported from the portal's status labels.
| Status | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Pending for Finalization | The form was saved but never finalised | Log in again and click Finalize — no payment is made until you do |
| Sent for Payment | The application is valid and DBT processing has started | Wait — the money should reach the bank account in about 3-7 working days |
| Payment done / paid | The amount has been transferred | Check the bank account and passbook; if it is not there, check whether the account is Aadhaar-seeded |
After verification, payment normally takes 1-3 months and is released in batches, so a delay of weeks after applying is normal. If the money does not arrive after the status says it was sent, check the Aadhaar seeding of the bank account first — that is the most common reason for a failed DBT.
For payment problems, the tracker-reported helpline numbers are 9534547098 and 8986294256, and the email is [email protected]. These are reported by tracker sites, not published on the portal homepage — treat them as a starting point, not an official helpline listing.
The other schemes on the same portal
Medhasoft runs several Bihar schemes side by side, and students often mix them up. They are separate schemes with separate applications — applying for one does not apply you for the others.
| Scheme | Who it is for | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Mukhyamantri Kanya Utthan Yojana (+2) | Unmarried girls who pass Class 12 (BSEB) | Rs 25,000 |
| Mukhyamantri Kanya (Snatak) Protsahan Yojana | Girls who complete graduation in Bihar | Rs 50,000 |
| Mukhyamantri Balak/Balika (Madhyamik) Protsahan Yojana | Boys and girls who pass Class 10 | Amount per the scheme notice on the portal — not stated here (not verified in this run) |
| Mukhyamantri Medhavriti Yojana | SC/ST girls who pass Class 12 in first or second division | Rs 15,000 (first division) / Rs 10,000 (second division), tracker-reported |
Year 2026 registration was open for the Class 10, Class 12 (+2) and Medhavriti components when the portal was checked on 25 October 2026. The Medhavriti amounts are tracker-reported (Shiksha, Collegedunia) and no 2026-27 closing date was verified for that scheme.

Frequently asked questions
How much money does Kanya Utthan Yojana pay?
Two incentives matter for students: Rs 25,000 after passing Class 12 (Intermediate) and Rs 50,000 after completing graduation. Both are one-time payments by direct benefit transfer. The scheme also pays smaller amounts at earlier stages (birth, school entry, uniforms), but those early-stage figures differ between tracker reports, so this guide states only the two verified higher-education amounts.
Is there a last date to apply for 2026?
No closing date has been published that could be verified. The official Medhasoft portal showed Year 2026 registration as OPEN on 25 October 2026 for the Class 12 (+2) and graduation components. Apply while it is open — do not wait for a deadline announcement that may not come.
Can a married girl get the Rs 25,000 Class 12 incentive?
No. For the Class 12 (+2) incentive the girl must be unmarried at the time the result is declared. The Rs 50,000 graduation incentive has no such condition — married and unmarried graduates are both eligible.
Is there an income limit or caste condition?
No. The scheme is universal for Bihar girls — it applies regardless of caste, religion or family income, and covers up to two girl children per family. Some tracker pages mention income conditions, but those contradict the scheme's own universal design as reported by multiple sources, so this guide does not state an income limit.
My status says 'Pending for Finalization'. What does that mean?
It means you registered but did not press Finalize — and without finalising, no scholarship is paid. Log in to medhasoft.bihar.gov.in again, open your application and click Finalize. If the status says 'Sent for Payment', the payment is on its way and should reach the bank account in about 3-7 working days (tracker-reported).
I applied months ago and the money has not come. What should I check first?
Check three things in order: (1) your bank account is in your own name, opened in a Bihar branch, and seeded with Aadhaar and mapped on NPCI — without this, DBT fails; (2) your name and date of birth on Aadhaar match your board marksheet exactly; (3) your application status on the portal. For payment issues, the tracker-reported helpline numbers are 9534547098 and 8986294256, and the email is [email protected].
