How Bihar counselling works — the five state counsellings

Bihar's state counselling is run by one board, the Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board (BCECEB), on bceceboard.bihar.gov.in — but it is five separate counsellings, each with its own exam, its own rank and its own registration. Registering for one does not register you for another. The national counsellings (JoSAA for engineering, MCC for the 15% All India Quota MBBS seats) run separately again.

UGMAC, UGEAC and BCECE statuses are from official BCECEB documents or the BCECEB notice board; DCECE and ITICAT statuses are tracker-reported from BCECEB notices.

Every Bihar state counselling follows the same shape: register online and pay the fee, get a rank card, fill choices (college and branch, in order of preference), get a provisional allotment, download the allotment order, then report for document verification and admission at the allotted institute. If you miss choice locking, you get no seat in that round — the choice list is the whole game.

UGMAC 2026: government MBBS colleges, district by district

Bihar had 14 government MBBS colleges in 2026. Twelve ran from Round 1; two are new in 2026 — Government Medical College, Chapra (Saran) and Shri Ram Janki Medical College, Samastipur — with 50 MBBS seats each, approved by the National Medical Commission on 3 September 2026 and first appearing in Round 2. The state-quota seat total was 1,392 government MBBS seats. Bihar's state categories are UR, EWS, BC, EBC, SC and ST — there is no OBC-NCL category in UGMAC; Bihar splits OBC into BC and EBC.

Pre-stray cumulative closing = the maximum closing rank across Rounds 1, 2 and 3 (R2/R3 from official BCECEB PDFs; R1 tracker-sourced). Rounds 1-3 are complete; the stray vacancy allotment is on 27 October 2026, so these are not final 2026 closings. '—' means no UR-General row appears for that college in the official R2/R3 PDFs — an anomaly in the documents, not a zero. BC/EBC/SC/ST closings are published in the BCECEB PDFs and are not tabulated here.

The district pattern is clear: Patna holds four of the fourteen colleges and the three tightest UR closings (PMC 7,374, IGIMS 8,503, NMC 11,241). The two new colleges in Saran and Samastipur closed furthest out on EWS (27,812 and 29,126) — new colleges are the realistic entry point for ranks beyond 25,000. The stray vacancy round offered only 26 vacant government MBBS seats, so it will move these closings only slightly.

The 15% All India Quota seats in the same colleges are counselled separately by MCC, not by BCECEB. Verified (tracker) 2026 Round 3 closings: AIIMS Patna General 1,665; Patna Medical College General 4,882; Nalanda Medical College General 10,362. AIQ Round 3 closings for the other Bihar state colleges were not verified in this run. MCC's stray vacancy final allotment was on 21 October 2026, with reporting open till 26 October 2026.

UGEAC 2026: government engineering colleges, district by district

UGEAC 2026 covered 42 institutes, including 38 government engineering colleges in the prospectus (13,860 seats in Schedule-I), plus the women's institute WIT Darbhanga and SGIDT Patna. Twenty-six institutes offer plain Computer Science & Engineering. The table below gives the final (Round 2-combined) closing UGEAC merit rank for plain CSE, General seat type, by district. UGEAC reservation in the state quota is UR 40%, EBC 18%, SC 16%, BC 12%, EWS 10%, RCG 3% and ST 1%, with one-third of state-quota seats reserved for women.

Final closing = Round 2-combined value from the official BCECEB UGEAC26_OCR_R2.pdf. UGEAC B.Tech counselling ended at Round 2 (allotment 17 July 2026); no Round 3 or mop-up OCR exists on the BCECEB notice board as of 25 October 2026. Ranks are UGEAC merit ranks, not JEE Main All India ranks. Ten further institutes offer no plain CSE, only CSE-family specialisations (AI, Data Science, Cyber Security).

The read-off is simple: a UGEAC rank under 200 got MIT Muzaffarpur or BCE Bhagalpur CSE; under 1,000 got GCE Gaya, NCE Chandi or DCE Darbhanga CSE; under 2,500 got GEC Vaishali or SIT Sitamarhi CSE; and under 7,000 got CSE at any of the 26 plain-CSE colleges. At MIT Muzaffarpur itself, the other branches closed further out — Information Technology 248, Electronics and Communication 480, Civil 665, Electrical 892, Mechanical 1,290 — so a rank of 500-1,000 at MIT still bought a core branch.

For the three Bihar institutes in JoSAA, the 2026 final-round (Round 5) closings, tracker-sourced: IIT Patna CSE 3,635 (JEE Advanced rank); NIT Patna CSE 17,282 (Other State, JEE Main CRL) and 18,862 (Home State); IIIT Bhagalpur CSE 48,416 (JEE Main CRL). CSAB special rounds extended these: NIT Patna CSE to 20,341 (Other State, Special Round 2) and IIIT Bhagalpur CSE to 67,746. JoSAA had five rounds in 2026 (Round 5 on 16 July); CSAB Special Round 2 allotment was on 12 August 2026.

BCECE, DCECE and ITICAT 2026 — where each one ended

The three smaller BCECEB counsellings all finished in September 2026. Their 2026 timelines, tracker-reported from BCECEB notices, are the pattern to expect in 2027.

DCECE's mop-up round 2 covered the Polytechnic Engineering stream; its opening and closing ranks were published on 11 September 2026. ITICAT's mop-up vacancy report listed 4,084 seats, with a separate women's mop-up report of 4,515 seats.

A DCECE example shows how far a rank goes in the polytechnic stream: in the DCECE PE 2026 mop-up round, Computer Science and Engineering (UR) closed at 18,195 at Government Polytechnic Bhagalpur, 22,034 at Sitamarhi, 26,497 at Purnea and 50,967 at G.M.C.P. Harnaut, Nalanda (tracker-reported from the BCECEB cutoff PDF).

Documents for verification and admission

Every Bihar state counselling ends the same way: you download the provisional allotment order from bceceboard.bihar.gov.in and report to the allotted institute (or the reporting centre named in the order) with originals for verification. The list below is standard BCECEB practice as reported by trackers — your allotment order names the exact documents and the reporting window, and that order is authoritative.

• Provisional allotment order (downloaded from the BCECEB portal) and the rank card.
• Admit card and marksheet of the entrance exam (NEET / JEE Main / BCECE / DCECE / ITICAT, as applicable).
• Class 10 certificate or marksheet (proof of date of birth) and Class 12 marksheet and certificate.
• Domicile certificate of Bihar (for state-quota seats).
• Caste certificate (BC/EBC/SC/ST) and EWS certificate, if claiming reservation — issued by the competent Bihar authority.
• Aadhaar card and recent passport-size photographs (same as the application).
• Medical fitness certificate where the institute asks for one (MBBS/BDS).
• Fee payment receipt for the counselling / seat-acceptance fee.
