7,886 roll numbers are on the list — and the SSB registration clock is already running
The Union Public Service Commission has declared the written result of the National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination (II), 2026, in a press note dated 9 October 2026. 7,886 candidates have qualified for the interview stage conducted by the Services Selection Boards (SSB) of the Ministry of Defence. By a count of the official roll-number list, the qualified candidates comprise 7,406 male and 480 female candidates. The written examination was held on 13 September 2026.
This is the result that matters most read quickly, because NDA's post-result machinery moves faster than candidates expect. The press note directs qualified candidates to register for the SSB within two weeks of the declaration of the result — which, from a 9 October result, runs to approximately 23 October 2026. That is a direction in the official note, not a suggestion, and it is now only days away. If your roll number is on the list and you have not registered, that registration — on joinindianarmy.nic.in — is the single most urgent task in this article.
What the qualified candidates are competing for: 394 vacancies
NDA & NA (II) 2026 fills 394 vacancies across the wings and the Naval Academy:
- Army: 208
- Navy: 42
- Air Force: 120 — Flying 92, Ground Duties (Technical) 18, Ground Duties (Non-Technical) 10
- Naval Academy (10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme): 24
The successful candidates will join the 158th Course at the National Defence Academy and the 120th Indian Naval Academy Course (INAC), both commencing on 1 July 2027. Twenty qualified candidates per vacancy is the headline ratio, but the SSB is not a lottery among the 7,886: it is a structured, multi-day assessment, and the final merit list is prepared from the written examination and SSB performance together under UPSC's rules. The written result has bought you an assessment, not a probability.
Registration: where, and why the two weeks matter
The SSB process begins with online registration on the Indian Army's recruiting portal, joinindianarmy.nic.in, which is the channel through which SSB dates and centres are allotted for NDA candidates. The press note's instruction is to complete this within two weeks of the result declaration — with the result press note dated 9 October 2026, that means around 23 October 2026.
Two disciplines follow from that. First, do not wait for a call-up letter to begin: allotment flows from registration, and candidates who register inside the window in good time draw from the full run of SSB batches and centres. Second, do not treat the approximately-23-October figure as negotiable because this page phrases it as "around". The two-week direction is the official instruction; the date is simply its arithmetic. If you are reading this on or after 20 October, you have days, not weeks.
Candidates should also note what registration is not. It is not the SSB itself, it is not a second application to UPSC, and it does not ask UPSC for anything. UPSC's role in your candidature from here is the final merit at the end of the process; the SSB stage belongs to the services.
Candidature is provisional — and your certificates go to the SSB, not UPSC
The press note's standing conditions apply in full:
- Candidature is provisional at this stage. Written qualification is subject to verification of your eligibility — age, educational qualification and every claim made in the application.
- Original certificates go to the SSB, not to UPSC. Your certificates in support of age and educational qualification are produced before the Services Selection Board when you report, as the SSB instructions direct. Do not send originals to UPSC; the Commission does not collect them at this stage.
- Discrepancy is disqualifying. If the documents do not support the claims in your application, the candidature ends there, irrespective of written marks or SSB performance.
For school-leaving-age candidates, the practical translation is simple: locate your original Class 10 and Class 12 certificates and marksheets now, along with the identity and category documents your application relied on, and keep the set together. The SSB reporting instructions will list exactly what to carry; your job this week is to make sure every item on that list exists in your hands before the call-up arrives.
Marks and cut-offs: deliberately not yet
Candidates searching today for NDA 2 2026 marks or cut-offs will find confident numbers on coaching pages. None of them are UPSC numbers. Under the Commission's practice for this examination, marks and cut-offs are published only after the entire selection process — written, SSB and final merit — is complete. There is no scorecard with the written result, no cut-off in the press note, and no official figure to anchor speculation to. This article prints none. Your roll number's presence or absence in the official list is the complete official information at this stage, and it is enough to act on.
Your action list, in order
- Confirm your roll numberin the official written result list on upsc.gov.in — the PDF, not a third-party reproduction.
- Register on joinindianarmy.nic.in now— the two-week window from the 9 October result runs to approximately 23 October 2026.
- Assemble your original certificates— age and education proofs and any claim-supporting documents — for production before the SSB. Nothing goes to UPSC.
- Start SSB preparation immediatelythe assessment is a multi-day, two-stage process of screening, psychological tests, group tasks and interview, and it rewards candidates who arrive knowing its structure.
- Watch for your SSB date and centre allotmentthrough the registration channel, and treat the reporting instructions in your call-up as final.
The NDA (II) 2026 written stage selected 7,886 candidates for 394 seats in courses that begin on 1 July 2027. Between this page and those courses stands one registration deadline measured in days and one assessment measured in days at an SSB centre. Handle the first this week; prepare for the second from today.
