The exam is over. The selection is not.

For the Indian Army's 2027 recruiting year, the sequence ran the opposite way to what many candidates expected: the online Common Entrance Examination (CEE) came first, and the rally comes after. Applications for the recruiting year 2027 were invited from 13 February 2026 to 1 April 2026 through the Join Indian Army portal, the CEE was held in June 2026, and through October 2026 the Army Recruiting Offices are running the rally stage for candidates who cleared it — physical fitness tests, physical measurement, document verification and medical examination, district by district and category by category.

The scale is visible in the reports: at Visapur in Chandrapur district, Maharashtra, the rally running from 3 to 16 October 2026 drew around 8,500 CEE-qualified candidates from Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa, with attendance above 90 per cent. At Roorkee, the rally for Agniveer Clerk/Store Keeper Technical candidates from all of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand began on 5 October 2026. A further rally for the Ahmedabad recruiting office's districts is scheduled at Godhra from 19 February to 2 March 2027 — a reminder that this stage runs for months, and that missing your allotted date is not something the system accommodates. Admit cards for the rally are sent to the registered email address and can be downloaded from the Join Indian Army website with your username and password; the date and time printed on yours are the ones that apply to you.

What the rally stage actually tests

Clearing the CEE gets you to the gate. Four filters operate at the rally:

  1. Physical Fitness Test (PFT).The standard components are the 1.6 km run, pull-ups, the 9-feet ditch and the zig-zag balance. The run is the filter that removes the most candidates — train for it specifically, on the ground, in the weeks before your date, not on a treadmill the night before.
  2. Physical Measurement Test (PMT).Height, weight and chest are measured against the standards for your category and region. These are pass/fail measurements taken on the day; there is no re-measurement appeal at the venue.
  3. Document verification.Every claim in your application — education, domicile, caste, NCC or sports bonus, relationship status for wards of service personnel — must be proved with originals at the rally itself (the checklist below).
  4. Medical examination.Conducted to Army standards after the physical stages. Candidates found unfit are told the grounds; the review process, where offered, is through the military hospital system, not through private certificates.

Final selection is by merit within each category, combining the stages as the notification prescribes. One procedural point from this cycle's notifications is worth knowing: a candidate could apply for two Agniveer categories (over and above regular-entry categories) where eligible, sitting two CEEs — but attends only one rally and medical, for the category carrying the higher physical and medical standard.

The categories, and what each demands on paper

The categories, and what each demands on paper
CategoryCore education requirement (notified pattern)
Agniveer General DutyClass 10 pass with 45% aggregate (subject conditions apply)
Agniveer TechnicalClass 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics
Agniveer Office Assistant / Store Keeper TechnicalClass 12 with 60% aggregate
Agniveer Tradesmen (10th pass)Class 10 pass, trade-specific
Agniveer Tradesmen (8th pass)Class 8 pass, trade-specific
Agniveer General Duty (Women Military Police)Class 10 pass with 45% aggregate
Soldier Technical (Nursing Assistant / Nursing Assistant Veterinary)Class 12 Science with Physics, Chemistry, Biology
Sepoy Pharma10+2 with D.Pharma (55%) or B.Pharma (50%), with pharmacy registration

The age band for Agniveer categories is 17½ to 21 years as the notification defines it. Under the Agnipath scheme, Agniveers serve for four years, receive a monthly package that rises each year (₹30,000 in the first year to ₹40,000 in the fourth, part of it building the Seva Nidhi fund), and on completion receive the Seva Nidhi package; up to 25 per cent of each batch can be enrolled into the regular cadre on merit and organisational requirements. Keep those two numbers — four years, 25 per cent — straight, because recruiting-season rumours routinely garble both.

The rally-day document checklist

From the Roorkee rally notice, the documents candidates were told to bring — this list is representative of what AROs demand, and your own admit card and notification govern:

  • Admit card for the rally
  • Aadhaar card, PAN card, and a mobile number linked with Aadhaar (identity checks at the venue use it)
  • 20 recent passport-size colour photographs
  • Educational qualification certificates (originals)
  • Domicile certificate and caste certificate
  • School character certificate, and a religion certificate signed by the Village Sarpanch or competent authority where religion is not stated elsewhere
  • Character certificate and unmarried certificate, both signed by the Village Sarpanch or competent authority
  • Police character certificate (generated online)
  • Relation certificate and NCC or sports certificates, where applicable
  • Three sets of photocopies of every original

Affidavits, where required, are prepared at the rally site — the Roorkee notice says so explicitly — so do not pay an agent in advance for paperwork the venue produces itself.

Five ways candidates eliminate themselves

  1. Reporting on the wrong day.Rally schedules are category- and district-specific. Arriving on a day allotted to another category is the same as not arriving.
  2. Trusting a forwarded schedule.Dates move between the first announcement and the admit card. The admit card in your login is the final word.
  3. Photographs that do not match the count or the specification.Twenty recent colour photographs sounds excessive until you are the candidate short of them at 4 a.m. outside the gate.
  4. Certificates in the wrong name order or wrong format.Domicile and caste certificates are checked against the application exactly as documents at the GDS or bank verification are; a mismatch discovered at the rally has no correction window.
  5. Training for the wrong test. The CEE rewarded desk preparation. The rally rewards a timed 1.6 km run, pull-up strength and measured physical standards. Candidates who coast after the written result arrive underprepared for the stage that now decides everything.

If your rally is still weeks away — as it is for the zones scheduled into early 2027 — that gap is preparation time the October candidates no longer have. Use it on the run, the pull-ups, and the document file, in that order.
