GMAT current exam format
The current GMAT is designed for graduate management and business-school admissions. It measures quantitative reasoning, verbal reasoning and the ability to interpret and use data. Students should prepare for the current three-section GMAT rather than older material built around the previous four-section edition.
| Section | Questions | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Quantitative Reasoning | 21 | 45 minutes |
| Verbal Reasoning | 23 | 45 minutes |
| Data Insights | 20 | 45 minutes |
GMAT score scale and score validity
The GMAT Total Score ranges from 205 to 805 and all Total Score values end in 5. Quantitative Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning and Data Insights each use a 60–90 section scale and contribute equally to the Total Score. Because the current GMAT and the previous edition use different score distributions, candidates should not directly compare a current 605 with an older 600 as though they mean the same performance.
| Reported score | Current scale |
|---|---|
| GMAT Total Score | 205–805 |
| Quantitative Reasoning | 60–90 |
| Verbal Reasoning | 60–90 |
| Data Insights | 60–90 |
| Score validity | 5 years |
