Sixty-three lakh candidates are now waiting on one PDF
The undergraduate NTPC recruitment under CEN 07/2025 has reached the stage where the crowd thins fast. About 63 lakh candidates appeared in CBT-1, held from 7–9 May and 13–20 June 2026 for 3,058 undergraduate posts. The CBT-1 result, declared on 24 August 2026 with zone-wise and category-wise cut-offs, shortlisted 45,898 candidates — roughly fifteen for every post. Those candidates sat CBT-2 on 17 September 2026, the provisional answer key followed through the candidate login, and objections have been filed. What remains is the CBT-2 result, and then a set of stage-3 tests that most candidates have barely thought about.
This article is about everything after CBT-2: what the result decides, which test applies to which post, how the final merit list is actually calculated, and what to prepare while the result is pending. If you are looking for the CBT-1 story — cut-offs, scorecards, normalisation — that stage is closed; this page starts where you now stand.
What the CBT-2 result will and will not decide
The result will be published the way CBT-1's was: as zone-wise PDFs on the regional RRB websites listing the roll numbers shortlisted for the next stage, with individual scorecards available through the candidate login. Two disciplines from the CBT-1 round apply again. First, check the PDF, not only the scorecard — shortlisting is a function of your normalised marks, your zone, your category and the number of candidates your RRB calls for the next stage, so a "good" scorecard does not by itself prove shortlisting. Second, the shortlist is post-sensitive: a candidate can be shortlisted for one post's next stage and not another's, because the next stage itself differs by post.
As of 20 October 2026 the result is awaited; preparation portals expect it during October. That expectation is not an RRB announcement, and this page will not dress it up as one.
Stage 3 splits three ways
| Post | Vacancies (CEN 07/2025) | Next stage after CBT-2 |
|---|---|---|
| Commercial cum Ticket Clerk | 2,424 | Document verification directly |
| Accounts Clerk cum Typist | 394 | Typing Skill Test |
| Junior Clerk cum Typist | 163 | Typing Skill Test |
| Trains Clerk | 77 | Document verification directly |
A note on precision, because this is where most summaries go wrong: the Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT) that candidates associate with NTPC belongs to the graduate-level posts whose duties the CEN treats as safety- and attention-critical; it is not a stage for these undergraduate posts. For the UG posts in this CEN, the operative stage-3 hurdle is the Typing Skill Test for the two clerk-cum-typist posts, and it is qualifying in nature — you must cross the notified speed and accuracy standard, but the test's marks do not build your merit. Candidates should still confirm the stage mapped to each post they applied for in the CEN document itself; summaries (including this one) compress, and the CEN does not.
The typing standard candidates must be ready for is the one NTPC notifications prescribe: sustained typing at the notified speed in English or Hindi, on a computer, without editing tools. The practical implication is simple — if you applied for Accounts Clerk cum Typist or Junior Clerk cum Typist and have not typed under test conditions since the application, the result-wait is your last cheap chance to fix that.
How the final merit is actually built
For undergraduate NTPC posts, the merit rests on CBT-2 normalised marks (CBT-1 was a screening stage), subject to qualifying the stage-3 test where one applies, and then clearing document verification and the medical examination to the standard prescribed for the post. The sequence after the CBT-2 result is:
- Stage-3 test(typing, where applicable) for shortlisted candidates.
- Document verificationoriginals of Class 12 and other certificates, category and other claim documents, checked against the application. As with every railway stage, a claim you cannot document is a claim you do not have.
- Medical examinationto the fitness standard of the post.
- Final panelpublished zone-wise, followed by allotment.
Medical standards differ by post — vision requirements in particular — and a candidate can clear every written stage and still be filtered at the medical for a post whose standard they do not meet. Read the standard for your post in the CEN before the panel stage, not after.
What to do with the waiting weeks
- Keep the login alive. Scorecards, answer keys, city intimations and stage-3 call letters for this recruitment have all moved through the candidate login and the regional RRB sites. Check both; the zone PDF and the login do not always update on the same day.
- Start typing practice if a typist post is on your list. Thirty focused minutes a day for the weeks the result takes is the difference between a qualifying test being a formality and being an exit.
- Assemble the verification file now: Class 10 and 12 certificates, category certificate in the format the CEN requires, and identity documents, in originals and copies. Document verification for railway recruitments runs on short notice after results.
- Ignore predicted cut-offs. With 45,898 candidates chasing 3,058 posts across 21 RRBs and multiple categories, a single "expected cut-off" number circulating on social media describes nobody's actual situation. Your zone, your category and your post list are the only frame that matters.
The graduate-level NTPC cycle under its own CEN runs on a separate track with its own dates; nothing on this page should be carried over to it. For UG candidates, the next official artefact is the CBT-2 result PDF on your RRB's website — everything else until then is preparation.
