The CBE result is out — and it is a shortlist, not a selection

The Staff Selection Commission has declared the result of the Computer Based Examination for Constable (GD) in CAPFs and SSF, and Rifleman (GD) in Assam Rifles Examination, 2026. The notice, published on ssc.gov.in on 12 October 2026, shortlists candidates to appear in the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Physical Standard Test (PST) — the physical stage that now decides who moves towards the 25,487 vacancies this recruitment carries.

Read the headline number carefully, because it is the one most likely to be misread. A total of 1,97,408 candidates have been shortlisted for PET/PST. That is not the number of people who will be appointed. It is the pool from which the physical tests, document verification and medical examination will filter the final merit list — and the final merit, as SSC's scheme makes clear, is built on the CBE marks of those who clear every later stage. The physical stage is qualifying in nature: it does not add marks, but failing it ends your candidature regardless of how high your CBE score was.

The numbers, exactly as SSC published them

The CBE for GD Constable 2026 was held from 27 April to 30 May 2026, and 21,56,776 candidates appeared in it. Against 25,487 vacancies, SSC has shortlisted:

  • 15,782 female candidates (non-SSF forces)
  • 1,81,251 male candidates (non-SSF forces)
  • 375 male candidates for the SSF
  • Total: 1,97,408 candidates for PET/PST

That works out to roughly eight shortlisted candidates for every vacancy — a deliberate multiple, because SSC knows the physical stage, document verification and the medical examination will each remove candidates. If you are on the list, your CBE rank inside your state and category is what you carry forward; the physical tests only decide whether you stay in the race.

Cut-offs: the one verified figure, and where the rest live

The result write-up carries the full state-wise and category-wise cut-off tables — cut-offs in this examination are worked out against state/UT-wise vacancies, so there is no single national cut-off that means anything on its own. The one figure this article prints, because it was verified from the write-up, is the SSF Unreserved male cut-off: 146.178 out of 160.

Do not let any website hand you a single "GD cut-off 2026" number for the CAPF forces. To find yours, open the result write-up PDF on ssc.gov.in and read the row for your state, your category and your gender in the annexures. That table is also the honest answer to the question every candidate asks next — how far above the cut-off you finished — and no summary, including this one, is a substitute for reading your own row.

Separately, remember the qualifying floor that applied before cut-offs were even computed: 30% for Unreserved, 25% for OBC and EWS, and 20% for SC, ST and Ex-Servicemen candidates. Falling below your category's qualifying percentage in the CBE meant elimination before the state-wise competition began.

PET/PST dates are not announced yet — say it plainly

As of 20 October 2026, SSC has not announced the PET/PST schedule. The result notice shortlists you; it does not summon you. The physical tests are conducted by the CAPFs, and the dates, venues and admit cards for PET/PST will come through the PET/PST call notice from the nodal force. Until that notice exists, anyone giving you a PET date is guessing.

What you should do with the wait is use it. The gap between a CBE result and the physical call is historically where unprepared candidates lose a selection they had already half-won on paper. The run cannot be built in the last week.

What PET and PST actually involve

The two tests measure different things, and confusing them is a common preparation error:

  • Physical Efficiency Test (PET) is the performance test — principally the race. The running standards you must meet are the standards printed in the examination notification's standards table, applied by category and gender and reconfirmed in the PET/PST call notice. Train to that table, not to a number from a coaching video: read the standard for your category in the notification and build your timing around it with a margin, because test-day conditions, tracks and nerves all take something off your practice best.
  • Physical Standard Test (PST) is the measurement test — height, chest (for male candidates) and weight checked against the notified standards, including the relaxations the rules provide for eligible categories. You cannot train height, but you can remove surprises: measure yourself honestly now, and if you claim a relaxation, keep the supporting certificate ready and in the prescribed format.

Document verification runs alongside the physical stage. The documents that decide most disputes are the Class 10 certificate — it is both your education proof and your date-of-birth proof — your category certificate in the prescribed format if you have claimed reservation, and identity documents whose name spellings match across every paper you carry. A mismatch you can fix in October is a trivial errand; the same mismatch discovered at the verification desk is a crisis.

After PET/PST and document verification comes the Detailed Medical Examination, with the review medical route available under the rules for candidates declared unfit who appeal in time. Only candidates who clear every one of these stages enter the final merit, and that merit is drawn from CBE marks — which is why the shortlist order matters more than the physical stage's pass/fail, provided you pass.

Your checklist for the next few weeks

  1. Confirm your name on the list.Search your roll number in the result PDF on ssc.gov.in; do not rely on a screenshot forwarded to you.
  2. Read your own cut-off rowin the write-up's state/category tables so you know exactly where you stand.
  3. Start the run today, training to the notification's standards table for your category, and build a safety margin.
  4. Assemble the document file— Class 10 certificate, category certificate if applicable, identity proof — and reconcile every name spelling.
  5. Watch only official channels— ssc.gov.in and the nodal CAPF's notices — for the PET/PST call notice and admit card. Dates announced anywhere else first are not dates.

One calibration to close with: 1,97,408 candidates now hold the same piece of good news, chasing 25,487 posts. The CBE has already done its sorting. What remains is a qualifying physical stage that eliminates the unprepared, a document check that eliminates the careless, and a medical that eliminates some of the unlucky. The first two of those are entirely in your control, starting today.
